Many research lines at the Center for Plant Systems Biology aim to unravel the genetic programs that control plant growth and development. Ultimately, these programs determine the morphological and biochemical features of plants that enable them optimize carbon fixation, adapt to their environment, to generate biodiverse ecosystems, and make them suitable for human exploitation. Research topics in this focus area cover aspects of root-, shoot-, and leaf development, as well as plant reproduction.

In order to maximize the societal impact of research conducted at PSB, we are dedicated to proactively translating basic scientific breakthroughs into tangible value. This practical approach is seamlessly integrated into our fundamental research inquiries and is furthered through collaborative partnerships with industry, as well as through licensing agreements and the establishment of spinoff ventures.

Molecular: Our research is dedicated to enhancing our understanding at the molecular level of various plant species, employing a range of experimental, computational, and data analysis methodologies. We strive to utilize cutting-edge technologies and actively search for advancements in technology to investigate evolution, climate change, and agronomic practices comprehensively.

Biodiversity plays a pivotal role in the development of climate-smart plants by providing a rich reservoir of genetic material and traits that can be harnessed for enhancing crop resilience to changing environmental conditions. PSB is exploring different ways in which existing biodiversity can aid this process.
